“Imagining Paradise" is an exploration of the oddities occurring with my own natural ocular vision. Following a medical issue, radiation, and subsequent treatment, my current visual world is now flat and two dimensional, similar to looking at a medieval painting, and scattered with black holes, mottled shapes, sparkles, and occasional light shows; a re-imagined Paradise.

For those with a love of the history of photography, it is not unlike looking at Nicephore Niecpe’s 1826 haunting Courtyard at Le Gras; an enigmatic twilight of plum purples, pale blues, and salmon pinks on a burnished pewter plate.

Using traditional silver-rich film and photographic papers, along with arcane chemistry and non-traditional technique, I am paying homage to the mystery of binocular vision and the history of the medium itself. “    -Keith Carter
