SEA WHAT I THINK
April 9 - July 2, 2022
“Sea What I Think”
“My practice focuses on sculptures made of clay with surfaces that explore communication, cognition, and energy. They reflect the world we live in and the world we think we know. The shapes and surfaces in “Sea What I Think” reflect the environmental loss of the coral reefs in the Gulf of Mexico and an appeal to empiricism and logic through the writings of Ludwig Wittgenstein. The surfaces include graphic symbols of how we communicate what we believe we know about the world. Patterning includes text in Morse Code and brain waves for example, What we think we know is evolving constantly. I am enough of a modernist to believe in principles, enough of a minimalist to believe in process and materials, and enough of a post-modernist to recognize that I am telling stories rooted in personal histories.”
